Library of Birmingham

The £189m Library of Birmingham, which houses a collection of one million books opened on 3rd September 2013.

Located on the west side of the city centre at  Centenary  Square it has been described as the largest public library in the United Kingdom and the largest public cultural space in Europe.

‘As part of the move to the new Library of Birmingham, we looked at our provision of microform readers, and wanted to provide our users with state-of-the-art equipment as well as making the best possible use of the space available.

The SL1000 Digital Microfilm Scanner from Covergold provided all of the functionality we required – as well as being able to handle both film and fiche on a single unit, the readers are capable of providing both print and digital output – a major benefit to our users, who can now also access microform and online resources via the same workspace. The capabilities of the reader’s software also mean that even the most faded microfilms are now much easier to read and access.

We have 16 SL1000's in the Library of Birmingham, and have been impressed with how much they have improved access to our microfilm and microfiche resources.’
